Listen for the change
Hearing how cat changes to cot helps your child notice which sound changed. Say both words and listen together.
A game for CVC Word Magic
The one-swap word game. Everything you need is already in the box.
Change one sound and a new word appears. Every swap is one more word read.

Dot the ladybug has three spots, one for each sound. Swap one and she turns into something new.
Say the sound, not the letter name. /m/, not "em". Keep stop sounds short: /t/, not "tuh".
One of your tiles goes on the board in place of one that is there. Red in the middle, blue at either end.
Say the sound of the tile you played.
Push the slider. Read the new word out loud.
The tile you took off goes in the lid.
Try dot to hot, then hot to hat. The full word list is in the game sheet below.
For grown-ups
Hearing how cat changes to cot helps your child notice which sound changed. Say both words and listen together.
Every new word gives your child another chance to blend. Count your trail and see how far you get together.
One tile per letter, one slot per letter. Your child sees the change, says it, then slides and reads it.
Stop while it is still fun. Tomorrow, Dot starts a new trail.
